Collaborative Presentation by Tobatenun, Aluih, Subeng Klasik, and FILO Celebrates Unity Through Indonesia's Diverse Cultural Expressions and Craftsmanship
Jakarta, 3 June 2026 — In commemoration of Pancasila Day and under the theme Unity in Diversity, Tobatenun, together with Aluih, Subeng Klasik, and FILO, presented a collaborative showcase celebrating the richness of Indonesia's cultural heritage through handwoven textiles, fashion, jewellery, and artisanal craftsmanship. Featuring Batak handwoven textiles, the iconic long kebaya of Sumatra by Aluih Sumatera, traditionally inspired jewellery by Subeng Klasik, and handcrafted crochet bags by FILO, the presentation served as a tribute to traditions that continue to thrive and evolve within a contemporary context.
The collaboration was inspired by a shared vision among women-led creative brands that view tradition not only as a source of inspiration but also as a platform for innovation. The curated collection of Batak handwoven textiles featured in the presentation was assembled by Yayasan Rumah Komunitas Wastra (House of Traditional Textile Community), known as Jabu Bonang, Tobatenun's partner foundation that supports more than 300 weaving artisans across the Batak region of North Sumatra. Rooted in cultural preservation and community empowerment, the showcased works reflect a living tradition that continues to evolve through contemporary interpretation.
Fashion label Aluih Sumatera presented a contemporary interpretation of the traditional long kebaya of Sumatra through lightweight, elegant silhouettes designed for modern wear. Jewellery by Subeng Klasik enriched the cultural narrative with pieces inspired by the diverse jewellery traditions of the Indonesian archipelago, while FILO completed the presentation with its collection of handcrafted crochet bags, highlighting artisanal expertise through a contemporary design approach. The presentation also featured 16 muse personas, all close friends and supporters of Tobatenun.
"Diversity is one of Indonesia's greatest strengths. Through this collaboration, we hope to demonstrate that traditions originating from different cultural backgrounds can come together to create a harmonious narrative that remains relevant today. For Tobatenun, preserving culture is not only about safeguarding the heritage of the past, but also about creating opportunities for artisans, designers, and creative practitioners to carry these stories forward into the future," said Moza Pramita Siregar, Chief Marketing Officer of Tobatenun.
Bringing together within four creative disciplines, the presentation created a visual harmony that celebrated Indonesia as a nation rich in tradition, stories, and cultural diversity. More than a fashion presentation, the collaboration paid tribute to the women who continue to create, preserve generations of inherited knowledge, and ensure the enduring relevance of cultural heritage in contemporary life.
As a celebration of Pancasila Day, this collaborative presentation stood as a symbol of unity in diversity—a reflection that differences in cultural backgrounds, techniques, and traditions can come together to become a collective strength, enriching Indonesia both today and for generations to come.
